Lacey Library To Spotlight Ocean County’s Revolutionary War History

FORKED RIVER, NJ — Residents can learn more about Ocean County’s place in the Revolutionary War during a free program next month at the Lacey Branch of the Ocean County Library.

“War at the Shore” is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at the branch, 10 East Lacey Road, Forked River. The Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission will present the program, according to the library announcement.

The event is tied to America’s 250th anniversary and will focus on New Jersey’s significance in the fight for independence. According to the announcement, New Jersey experienced more military engagements than any other colony during the war.

The program also will examine six of the most significant conflicts in what is now Ocean County. The announcement lists them as the Toms River Blockhouse Fight, Defense of Egg Harbor, Long Beach Island Massacre, Manahawkin Skirmish, and the Affair at Cedar Bridge.

The library announcement says attendees will “explore how bitter, personal grudges and local resources made this area a hotbed of activity during the Revolutionary War.” The program is geared toward teens, adults, and seniors.
