Lawrence Police Mourns Death Of Retired Detective Raymond Britton

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — The Lawrence Township Police Department is mourning the death of retired Detective Raymond "Ray" Britton, who served the township for 29 years before retiring in 1999.

Britton joined the department in February 1970 and rose through the Patrol Division before being assigned to the Detective Bureau, where he became known for his expertise in financial crimes.

"Known for his quiet demeanor, kindness, and exceptional attention to detail, Ray's dedication and professionalism made a lasting impact on both the department and the community he so proudly served," the department said.

After retiring, Britton continued his public service career as an insurance fraud investigator for the state of New Jersey, applying his experience in financial crimes investigations.

"Thank you, Ray," the department said. "Your legacy of integrity, knowledge, and compassion will never be forgotten, as you helped shape generations of Lawrence Township police officers."

Department members will wear mourning bands on their badges through Friday, July 17, in Britton's honor. The department asked the community to keep his family, friends and loved ones in their thoughts during this time.
