CHATHAM, NJ — Shameless Product Placement LLC, a local independent video game company founded by Chatham resident Charles Conlan, launched its first game, Apeoleon Goes Ape Ship, during the Fishawack Festival this past Saturday.
As part of the game's promotion, Shameless Product Placement created the Go Bananas Spy Network, a community-wide adventure that combined mobile gaming, storytelling, and local businesses. Participants explored downtown Chatham, completed missions, followed clues, scanned QR codes, and interacted with local sponsors while helping characters from Apeoleon Goes Ape Ship.
Players collected rewards and worked their way toward a final boss battle. The event also introduced families to Apeoleon Goes Ape Ship and helped recruit new testers interested in helping shape future versions of the game.
"We wanted to create something fun that connected gaming, local businesses, and the community," said Charles Conlan, Founder & Creative Director of Shameless Product Placement. "This was our first pilot event, and we learned a tremendous amount that will help us build even better experiences in the future."
The company expressed its gratitude to the local businesses and organizations that participated in the Spy Network, including Scoops, Chatham Convenience Store, Arminio's, iCode Chatham, Chatham Bagels, Fleur de Sel, Jabberwocky, and AT&T. Their support helped bring the concept to life and allowed the team to test a new approach to community engagement through interactive entertainment.
Founded in Chatham, Shameless Product Placement was created by Charles Conlan with a mission to build story-driven games while creating opportunities for local businesses to become part of the gaming experience itself.
The company plans to continue developing Apeoleon Goes Ape Ship, expand its player and tester community, and explore future opportunities to bring interactive gaming events to the local community.
