New Safety Upgrades Coming To Busy Chester Roadway

CHESTER, NJ — Mayor Tim Drag has announced several safety upgrades to a busy road in Chester.

Specifically, the township, in coordination with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, will be installing LED lights at every intersection along Route 206 in Chester.

Additionally, those intersections that already have a light fixture will be getting LED upgrades.

“The increased visibility will help improve safety for motorists turning onto or off of Township roads from Route 206, particularly after dark,” Drag said. “We appreciate NJDOT’s continued partnership and commitment to making Route 206 safer for our residents as well as everyone who travels through Chester Township.”

The new light poles will be 93-watt LED, Model ERL1-12C540 luminaires, all mounted on an 8-foot mast arm, according to officials.

The following street light pole installations and improvements will commence soon, according to NJDOT:

• Route 206 & Daly Road — Install 1 new LED luminaire
• Route 206 & Spring Lake Drive — Install 1 new LED luminaire
• Route 206 & Rogers Road — Install 1 new LED luminaire
• Route 206 & Fox Chase Road / Lamerson Road — Install 2 new LED luminaires
• Route 206 & Old Chester Road / Gladstone Road — Upgrade 4 existing HPS fixtures to LED
• Route 206 & Pottersville Road — Install 1 new LED luminaire
• Route 206 & Cooper Lane — Install 1 new LED luminaire
• Route 206 & Colby Farm Road — Install 1 new LED luminaire
• Route 206 & Melville Place — Upgrade existing HPS fixture to LED
• Route 206 & Duffy Road — Upgrade existing HPS fixture to LED

Chester Township will be responsible for the installation of the new fixtures, as well as the energy bill associated with them, the NJDOT says.

The nighttime road precautions come after other safety upgrades to Route 206, including the removal of overgrown vegetation and paving improvements.
