Knife-Wielding Stranger Rings Doorbell Of Montclair Apartment: Police

After asking for someone who doesn't live at the apartment, the man became verbally "aggressive" and took out a knife, police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A knife-wielding stranger got “aggressive” with a Montclair resident at an apartment on Wheeler Street on Monday, authorities say.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the resident said the encounter began when an unknown man rang the doorbell of his first-floor apartment.

The resident looked out the window and saw a man in all black clothes standing by the front door. Here’s what happened next, police said:

“The unidentified male stated he was looking for someone named ‘Sharon.’ The caller reportedly advised the unknown male that nobody by that name resides there. The unknown male then became verbally aggressive and retrieved a knife from his pocket and held it in an aggressive manner.”

The man then fled south on Wheeler Street on foot, police said. No additional information was immediately available.
