Canal Day returns to Montville today -- Saturday—April 18 —inviting residents to step back in time and experience the township’s historic Morris Canal firsthand.
The event will take place along the canal on Macculloch Drive, a key site in Montville’s 19th-century growth. Visitors can walk the historic towpath, imagine the mules and canal crews at work, and see how the canal influenced both the township and the surrounding region.

When: Saturday, April 18 (rain date: April 19), 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Where: Canal area along Macculloch Drive, Montville, NJ
Parking: Available at 2 Changebridge Road. Event volunteers will direct you to the path leading to the event site. Handicap parking is available on Macculloch Drive.
Event Highlights Include:
- Opening ceremony with VFW Color Guard and National Anthem performance by Montville Township High School student Giuliana Panico
- Historical presentations on the canal’s story and engineering
- Remarks from local, county, and state dignitaries
- Live period-specific music by The Vintage Melody Band
- Multiple food trucks offering a variety of food and beverages
- Guided bus tours of historic canal sites by O'Dowd’s Transportation
- Games of Yesteryear, including Cup and Ball, Quoits, Games of Graces, and Hoop and Stick
- Interactive experiences via Montville’s mobile museum
