Gynecologist Sexually Assaults Patients In NJ, Prosecutor Says

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — An 80-year-old gynecologist sexually assaulted multiple patients, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said.

Jerome Check, of Melrose Park, Pennsylvania, was charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault.

Between December 2024 and March 2025, Check, a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist, was alone in rooms with patients during their appointments.

Two of these patients believed their visits were informational only, until Check said it was necessary to perform what the Prosecutor's Office called an "invasive" check.

Check was taken into custody in September and released after an appearance in Superior Court. His case is now being prepared for a grand jury.

Check practiced at multiple offices across New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

He was previously listed on the Cooper University Health website as the Head of Reproductive Endocrinology and a Professor at the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.

That page has been removed.

Online records show Check has practiced for more than 20 years and worked at the Cooper Institute for Reproductive Hormonal Disorders, located at 17000 Commerce Pkwy.

Patch has reached out to Cooper University Health for more on the actions surrounding Check's charges and is yet to hear back.

Anyone who believes they may have also been a victim or who has other information is asked to contact (609) 265-5035.

Callers should ask to speak with a detective in the Special Victims Unit.

Submissions can also be made through the Prosecutor's Office website or by emailing tips@mountlaurelpd.org.
