The following is a letter to the editor from Morris Township resident Ralph Maguire-Losanno:
As a father of two young children, I think a lot about what makes Morris Township such a great place to live and what we need to do to keep it that way.
For me, it comes down to the things that make a community feel like home: neighbors looking out for one another, local businesses offering unique foods and products, a clean and safe environment, and knowing that the people who live here today can continue to call Morris Township home for years to come.

Affordability is at the center of that. I want young families like mine to be able to buy a home here and raise their children, and I want longtime residents and seniors to be able to remain in the community they helped build. No one should be forced to move simply because the cost of living here becomes too high.
Keeping Morris Township affordable while preserving what makes it special takes thoughtful planning and responsible financial management. We need to maintain our roads and sidewalks, invest in parks and playgrounds, and make smart decisions about development and municipal spending. We need to focus on investments that improve residents’ quality of life while preserving our neighborhoods.

That’s why I value Samantha Rothman’s experience. As a lifelong member of the community who is raising her family here, a local small-business owner, the co-founder of Grow It Green Morristown, a former vice chairwoman of the Board of Adjustment, and a current Township Committeewoman, she understands the importance of balancing residents’ needs with the township’s long-term interests. She brings valuable experience in land-use planning, environmental stewardship, and community development. That background matters when making decisions about protecting open space, managing growth, and preserving the character of our neighborhoods.
The renovation of the Collinsville playground is a great example of the kind of investment that matters to families. Having safe, welcoming places where children can play and neighbors can gather makes a real difference in our daily lives.
As a father raising his family in Morris Township, Jeremy Godwin understands how important places like our playgrounds are to families. Like me, he has a personal stake in our community’s future, and that resonates with me. He also brings more than 20 years of communications leadership experience and a record of community service. I want my children to grow up in a township where residents can trust that their local government is listening and making informed decisions. Jeremy’s experience communicating complex issues clearly and bringing people together would help make that happen.
I also want Morris Township to remain a place where local businesses can thrive. Another neighborhood parent, Stephanie Lyon, is raising her family here and brings two decades of experience in education, public health, and nonprofit leadership, along with a commitment to supporting small businesses and bringing people together. Her experience building partnerships and managing complex initiatives would be a real asset in addressing community needs and strengthening the connections that make Morris Township special.
I’m not looking for big promises or sweeping changes. I want leaders who understand our community, listen to residents, communicate openly, respect taxpayer dollars, and follow through on their commitments. That means making responsible choices now so families can afford to stay, neighbors can remain connected, and future generations can put down roots.
I know Samantha Rothman, Jeremy Godwin, and Stephanie Lyon understand what makes our community special, and I believe they will work to preserve it for the future.
