Local Group Shows Support for Targeted Immigrant Families

You Can Help by Showing Your Support

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been terrorizing residents throughout Morris County for weeks. The surge of masked ICE agents into towns and cities nationwide has already generated enormous economic, political, and social disruption. The long-term impacts of these ICE raids on communities are characterized by profound mental health crises (especially concerning when children are involved), significant local economic losses as residents are afraid of being out in public and swept up in raids, and a pervasive erosion of public trust in civic institutions. Standing up to ICE involves a combination of individual legal rights, community-based resistance, and legislative action as federal immigration enforcement intensifies.

A group of Morris Plains residents have stepped up to say no; the heavy-handed tactics being used should not be happening in the United States. They have decided that they will not stand silently by.

The locally formed “Unity Group” has developed an outreach initiative to show support for families being marginalized in our area. Unity buttons, posters, and lawn signs are being made available to those interested while the supplies last.

The logo of two grasping hands and wording of “UNITY” in both English and Spanish carries an important message of encouragement for immigrant families. The goal is to put this critical message to the forefront. To show that ours is a community that cares for its neighbors.

You can help spread the message! Lawn signs are available for a suggested donation of just $7 each and oversized buttons are just $1 and can be ordered at UnityGroupNJ@gmail.com.
