Dirt Bike Chase In Morris Co. Ends With Crash, Arrest: Police

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Morris County man was arrested this week after a chase involving a dirt bike ended with his hospitalization, police said.

Ryan M. Kennedy, 21, of Budd Lake, faces several charges following a police chase throughout Mount Olive this week.

On Saturday, around 12:30 a.m., Mount Olive police spotted Kennedy riding a dirt bike on Drakestown Road with no license plate and no illuminated taillight, officials said.

When the officer tried to pull the bike over, it accelerated down Wolfe Road, according to authorities. The pursuing officer decided to call off the chase, but continued to monitor the area.

Moments later, Kennedy had crashed his bike into a patch of grass near Wolfe and Kings Arrow roads, police said. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

At 9 p.m. that evening, hours after the crash, Kennedy was discharged from the hospital and taken into police custody. He was charged with eluding police with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle, failure to maintain lane, operation of an ATV on a public street, no mirrors, and operation of an ATV with no headlights.

He was released pending a court hearing.
