Legendary Morris County Diner Abruptly Closes Its Doors

After operating for nearly 40 years under two different owners, the diner closed its doors Tuesday night.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A staple eatery in the Morris County community has abruptly closed its doors, according to its owners.

On Tuesday night, one minute after it closed for the day, representatives of Budd Lake Diner on Route 46 West announced they would be closing down permanently.

"We are deeply saddened to abruptly close our doors today," a social media post read. "We enjoyed all of our customers for the last 4 & 1/2 years! We appreciate everyone who cared and loved us and our staff."

Patch has reached out to Budd Lake Diner representatives, and a reason for the closure was not immediately available. Just days before, the diner's social media account was advertising fall specials it would serve throughout the weekend.

The establishment has been serving up diner staples including omelettes, burgers, salads, and more since 1987, with new ownership taking over in May of 2022.

"A lot of memories made at the Budd Lake Diner. It will be missed," one social media user wrote. "It is very tough times for restaurants with the cost of food and overhead being so high while consumers aren’t spending extra money for the same reasons. Perhaps it will reopen in the future."

"This is really sad. We went out of our way to order from your diner, you had the best wraps and sandwiches around," wrote another. "Best of luck to you all in whatever comes next."

Check back with Patch for updates on the closure. In the meantime, customers seem overwhelmingly sad, confused, and hungry for one more Budd Lake Diner milkshake.
