Morris Co. Man Sexually Assaulted Child, Attempted Cover Up, Cops Say

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Morris County man has been arrested after sexually assaulting a child and attempting to keep the victim quiet, officials said.

Sivaldo A. Gonzalez Vasquez, 59, of Lake Hopatcong, faces sexual assault and witness tampering charges following an investigation by the Jefferson Township police and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

On Sept. 11, Jefferson police told the Morris County Prosecutor's Office about an investigation into the sexual abuse of a child.

Investigators found that Vasquez had sexually assaulted a child in Jefferson Township on multiple occasions between May 4 and Sept. 5, officials said.

Furthermore, Vasquez tried to interfere with the investigation by telling a witness and the victim to avoid speaking with police, according to authorities.

On Sept. 11, Vasquez was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault, three counts of sexual assault, one count of endangering the welfare of a child, and two counts
of witness tampering.

He was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility to await his Oct. 19 court date.
