Morris County Chief Walks Into Retirement After 30-Year Career

MORRISTOWN, NJ — After more than 30 years in law enforcement, Morris County Chief of Detectives Robert “Bob” McNally is heading into retirement.

McNally’s retirement was marked Friday with a walkout ceremony at the Morris County Administration and Records Building in Morristown. Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, First Assistant Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood, Sheriff James M. Gannon and colleagues from county and local law enforcement attended.

Commissioner Director Stephen H. Shaw presented McNally with a framed Resolution of Honor recognizing his law enforcement career and service as a U.S. Marine.

McNally began his law enforcement career with the U.S. Customs Service in 1996 and joined the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office as a detective in 2003. He investigated major crimes, led multiple divisions and became chief of detectives in 2023.

At the time of that promotion, Carroll said McNally had earned “the respect of our entire staff” and law enforcement officers throughout the county.
