Stabbing Suspect Arrested In Branch Brook Park, Man Charged With Attempted Murder

A New Jersey man faces several charges in connection with a domestic violence incident, police said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police arrested a stabbing suspect at Branch Brook Park on Monday, authorities say.

An arrest warrant was issued for Jose R. Soares, 45, of Newark, on June 19.

Earlier that day, a woman was stabbed and Soares was identified as the suspect. He was accused of repeatedly appearing at the victim’s home unannounced, despite being told multiple times that his presence was not welcome, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Soares was sought on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and stalking involving a female victim he knows, police said.
