Unruly Passenger On United Flight Detained In Newark After Altercation
The passenger was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
NEWARK, NJ — An unruly passenger was involved in an altercation Saturday evening on a United Airlines flight from the Dominican Republic to Newark, according to authorities.
Port Authority police detained a 48-year-old man without incident when flight 1837 arrived at Terminal B of Newark Liberty International Airport, authorities said, adding he was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation. One person on the plane refused medical attention, according to Port Authority.
“We’re grateful to our crew for their efforts to ensure the safety of fellow crew members and our customers,” United Airlines said in a prepared statement.

There were 170 customers and six crew members on board the Boeing 737 Max 8.
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident, according to the agency.
