Man Arrested In Alleged Rutgers Dorm Room Sex Assault

The young woman, a Rutgers student, told police she was sexually assaulted by an intimate partner in her dorm room last Saturday.

PISCATAWAY, NJ — An arrest was made in the incident where a Rutgers student was sexually assaulted inside her dorm room last Saturday, announced Rutgers campus Police.

Lenin Vallejo, 20, from Irvington, was arrested and charged with strangulation, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, two counts of invasion of privacy, criminal restraint and simple assault, Rutgers Police Chief Kenneth Cop announced Thursday.

He is not a Rutgers student.

This happened last Saturday, Jan. 24, inside a residence hall in Piscataway.

The young woman, a Rutgers student, told police she was sexually assaulted by an intimate partner in her dorm room. She had to be treated at an area hospital for injuries that were not life threatening.

The alleged sex assault happened in the early morning hours of January 24 and she reported it to campus police the next day, Jan. 25. Vallejo was arrested by Rutgers Police Jan. 28.

The Rutgers University Police Department asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the RUPD’s Detective Bureau at 848-932-8025.
