Do you want to learn to paint, but aren’t sure where to begin? Whether you are new to art making or you are returning to painting after many years, this three session workshop was designed to help you get started and lay a good foundation for future work. All necessary materials will be supplied, but please bring a pen and dress comfortably for a “wet paint” studio environment
Session 1, we will start with the absolute beginning steps - setting up a workspace; choosing good quality paint, brushes, and paper or canvas; recognizing the differences between watercolor, acrylic, and oil paintings; and connecting wet paint properties with how dry paintings appear.
In Session 2, we will explore the working properties of watercolor, acrylic, and oil paints in order to understand the advantages of each one. You will get a chance to try some basic techniques with each paint type and select the paint you want to use in our final session.
In Session 3, we’ll focus on the basics of color mixing. We will discuss basic color theory and how it applies to paint pigments; decode the helpful information on paint tubes; and focus on how to quickly build a working understanding of your paint colors. Each participant will leave with a personalized supply list and the confidence to continue to explore independently or take a class.
