📰 News we're reading

1. Comprehensive survey on Ocean City being conducted ‣ Ocean City Sentinel (ocnjsentinel.com) — Ocean City officials are funding a $95,000 comprehensive survey to better understand visitors, homeowners, and business districts so they can plan the resort's next five to ten years. Consultants will analyze bridge traffic, rental patterns, commercial districts, and tax impacts, with results shared publicly and used by City Council and other agencies to guide key decisions affecting residents and the local economy.

2. Archbishop Carroll's Eustace Mita Reshaped the Shore with Icona Resorts. Now He Wants Ocean City (delco.today) — Ocean City could see a $200 million, seven-story Icona resort rise on the former Gillian's Wonderland Pier site, a proposal that's already dividing residents. Developer Eustace Mita, who has reshaped several Shore towns with luxury hotels and high-end homes, says his faith-driven companies are investing for generations, raising big questions about Ocean City's future skyline and character.

3. Jersey Shore beachgoers warned as lifeguard staffing drops (nbcphiladelphia.com) — Ocean City now has just six guarded beaches, a sharp drop from peak summer coverage, and officials are urging swimmers to enter the water only where lifeguards are on duty. With most surf-zone deaths historically happening in September and rip currents still a threat, locals and late-season visitors are being reminded to treat the ocean cautiously, especially families with young children.

4. ESL classes at St. Peter's a two-way street ‣ Ocean City Sentinel (ocnjsentinel.com) — St. Peter's United Methodist Church in Ocean City hosts free, weekly English as a Second Language classes that connect immigrant adults with dedicated local volunteers. Students from countries like Russia, Mexico, and Haiti build language skills, community ties, and work opportunities, while teachers and church leaders quietly support them through challenges such as immigration fears and job loss.
