Wildwoods Air Show To Feature 9/11 Tribute, Ceremonies

WILDWOOD, NJ — The Wildwoods will pair its annual air show with a 9/11 tribute this year, with memorial ceremonies scheduled across the island before the two-day event begins.

The Wildwoods announced that the Wildwoods Air Show will return to the beaches on Sept. 12-13 and will include “a patriotic commemoration in honor of victims and heroes of 9/11 on the 25th anniversary of the tragedy.”

According to the announcement, the show will feature “an aerial salute to commemorate their lives.” Memorial events are also scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11, the day before the air show starts.

They include the Downtown Wildwood 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 10 a.m. in Byrne Plaza, the North Wildwood September 11th Commemoration at 8:40 a.m. at the 15th Street Fire Station at 15th Street and Central Avenue, and the Wildwood Crest 9/11 Memorial Service at 5:30 p.m. at Alameno Park at New Jersey and Miami avenues.

The air show is free to watch across the island, with the main performance area above the ocean between Morey’s Mariner’s Pier and Adventure Pier at the Spicer Avenue beach. Premium seating will also be available for purchase, according to the announcement.

The Wildwoods described the event as “a thrilling and commemorative send off for a summer of patriotic events celebrating America’s 250th birthday” and “a final send off to summer” that also kicks off the Wildwoods fall “Second Season.”

This year’s announced headliners are the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor Demo Team, 177th Fighter Wing, New Jersey Air National Guard, MiG-17, Jersey Jerks, Patrick McAlee, David Mindmiller, and RJ Gritter. The announcement states that spectators can watch from beach and boardwalk areas across the five-mile island.

The Wildwoods said the weekend schedule includes free and affordable events for visitors. The announcement also highlighted the island’s free beaches and noted that the beaches were voted the No. 1 Best Beach in New Jersey in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for the third year in a row. It also said the Wildwoods Boardwalk was named the No. 1 Best Boardwalk in the United States for a second year in a row in the same contest.
