Paramus Route 17 Redevelopment Review Postponed: New Date Set

The Paramus Planning Board has pushed back its review of three Route 17 North properties. Here's what residents need to know.

PARAMUS, NJ — A planned redevelopment review involving three properties along Route 17 North has been postponed, with a new meeting date now scheduled.

The Paramus Planning Board was originally scheduled to consider the properties during its Thursday, Nov. 5 meeting. However, the borough's revised meeting agenda confirms that the review has been adjourned until Thursday, Dec. 3.

The review concerns Block 413, Lots 4, 5 and 6, and whether the properties qualify as a non-condemnation area in need of redevelopment under New Jersey's Local Redevelopment and Housing Law.

Under New Jersey's Local Redevelopment and Housing Law, a non-condemnation redevelopment designation allows a municipality to pursue redevelopment without granting it the power to seize private property through eminent domain for the redevelopment.

As Patch previously reported, the properties were previously associated with a proposal to develop 1,050 apartments, including affordable housing units.

The revised agenda does not provide a reason for the postponement or announce a redevelopment determination.

According to the borough's Planning Board webpage, the review is now scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Borough Hall, 1 Jockish Square.

Residents can review the revised agenda online or contact Planning Board Secretary Maryellen Parente at mparente@paramusborough.org for additional information about the meeting.
