Parsippany Mayor Reflects On First 100 Days, Cites Budget And Town Operations
Mayor Pulkit Desai said his first 100 days included a budget review, policy updates and changes to township operations.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany Mayor Pulkit Desai said last Friday marked his first 100 days in office, and he used the milestone to outline early steps his administration has taken on budgeting, township operations, and internal coordination.
In his April 17 newsletter, Desai wrote, “This past Friday marked my first 100 days in office, and I want to take a moment to reflect on where we started and the work already underway.” He wrote that when he took office, he began reviewing how the township operates, what had been left unresolved, and what needed immediate attention.
According to the message, the township established regular communication with department heads, staff, and other local partners, including the Board of Education and the library. Desai wrote that departments met to listen, align priorities, and identify ways to operate more efficiently and save taxpayer dollars. He also said that the township began rebuilding relationships with labor unions and addressing issues that had gone unresolved.

"These are not always the most visible changes, but they are essential to running a coordinated and accountable government," Desai said. "Even as we worked through these challenges, our team responded to two major winter storms, keeping roads clear and maintaining essential services for residents.
The mayor said the administration found several areas that needed quick attention. According to the message, fee structures had not been updated in years, policies had not been reviewed, and grants and projects had been left incomplete or unresolved. Desai wrote that the township has started updating fees, modernizing policies, working with the state on outstanding funding, and evaluating which projects should move forward.

"While no one welcomes increases, what we uncovered was not a short-term issue, but a pattern of decisions that did not fully reflect long-term costs. We made the decision to address these challenges directly rather than delay them further. Responsible budgeting means being honest about where we are today so we can build a more stable future.
Desai described the first 100 days as the start of a broader effort focused on transparency, accountability, and long-term planning.
The next Parsippany council meeting is on May 5.
