📰 News we're reading

1. These 9 New Jersey Museums Let You Walk In For Free Any Day Of The Week (myfamilytravels.com) — Paterson residents can explore their own history for free at the Paterson Museum, which showcases the city’s legacy in silk, locomotives, firearms, and even early submarines. It’s one of nine New Jersey museums with no admission charge any day. The piece also suggests pairing a museum visit with a trip to the Great Falls for a full local outing.

2. 441 9Th Ave, Paterson, NJ 07514 (redfin.com) — If you live near 9th Avenue in Paterson, this update explains that the area’s R-1 zoning is strictly for low-density single-family homes and compatible neighborhood uses like schools or places of worship. Higher-density housing, multi-family conversions, and business or industrial uses are prohibited, while infill single-family development that preserves the neighborhood’s low-rise character is encouraged.

3. Paterson Man Convicted of Sexual Assault Charges (tapinto.net) — A Paterson resident has been convicted of multiple sexual assault charges for attacking an incapacitated woman at a Paterson residence, following an investigation by city police and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office. Jurors found 24-year-old Jericho Banchon guilty of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and related offenses, and he is scheduled to be sentenced on December 11.

4. Passaic County welcome signs showcase local history (westmilfordmessenger.com subscription) — New “Welcome to Passaic County” signs double as mini history lessons, featuring figures like Lafayette and Alexander Hamilton along with industrial imagery. One key theme is Hamilton’s vision for Paterson as America’s first planned industrial city, underscoring the city’s role in the county’s manufacturing heritage. Most drivers miss the artwork because it faces away from incoming traffic.

5. Woodland Park Residents Raise Traffic, Flooding Concerns Over Proposed McBride Avenue Mini-Roundabout (tapinto.net) — Passaic County is moving ahead with a mini-roundabout at McBride Avenue and Browertown Road in Woodland Park, and emergency responders and residents are pressing for changes before construction. They worry about fire truck access, long-standing flooding, and crosswalk safety near schools and the Department of Public Works. Engineers say designs can still be adjusted based on this feedback.
