Transformer Explosion Sparks Fire In Princeton

A portion of Cherry Valley Road was closed on Saturday as firefighters battled the fire.

PRINCETON, NJ — A transformer explosion caused a fire in Princeton on Saturday.

Around 1:50 p.m., a fire was reported near the 900 block of Cherry Valley Road.

"The fire was caused by live arching power lines which had fallen due to a transformer explosion," said Princeton Police Captain Thomas Lagomarsino.

The fire was on both sides of Cherry Valley Road.

Princeton and Montgomery Township police and fire came to extinguish the fire.

PSE&G was able to restore power to the area and will continue to work on the transformer.

The road was opened around 2:30 p.m.
