Biker Takes A Ride On Frozen Navesink River: Report

RED BANK, NJ — “Is he delivering pizza?” was the question one onlooker asked when they saw someone riding a bike on the frozen Navesink River in late January.

“Maybe he’s going to deliver to the ice boaters,” another remarks. “Guys, how crazy is this?” someone says.

These comments are all captured in a video posted by Storyful Viral on YouTube, where a person can be seen biking on the frozen Navesink River.

Dressed in pants and a hooded jacket, the biker can be seen riding on the river alongside some ice boats that are farther away, with what looks like a carrier or basket on the back of the bike.

As the onlookers watch the ride, they offer commentary on the scene, with some mixed opinions.

“The ice boats are acting like ‘yeah, it’s nothing,’” one person says.

“But the ice boats make sense, they’re skimming on the top of the water,” another replies. “He’s on a bicycle. In a river.”

“That’s incredible,” someone says.

“He does not have a wetsuit on,” another replies. “He’s an idiot.”

While the person riding the bike has not been identified, the video has since gained attention from local residents and organizations.

In an online post, the Red Bank Public Library shared footage of the bike ride with instrumental music playing over it, and called for residents to submit any photos or videos that they think may fit the library’s local history collection.

“We’ve been witnessing some wondrous winter fun in Red Bank!” the library said. “Like… biking on the Navesink River?!”
