Power Outage At American Dream Mall Forces Evacuation Of Rides

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — After power went out in some parts of the American Dream Mall on Route 3 on Monday night, customers were evacuated from several rides, a spokesperson said. But the mall stayed open.

Customers were able to enjoy attractions such as the ride-on animals and wave pool, said spokesman Gregg Schwartz.

"Due to a localized power outage, some areas of the center are currently without power," he said Monday night. "We are working closely with the utility company to restore service as safely and quickly as possible. All guests were safely evacuated from park rides."

He said people were enjoying attractions like the Gabby splash pad, theme park character visits, and Paw Patrol Hero Academy.

He referred questions about the nature of the outage to PSE&G.

A PSE&G spokesperson said, "The outage was caused by an issue with equipment internal to American Dream’s electrical system. PSE&G is working closely with the customer to safely restore service as quickly as possible."

Schwartz said Tuesday that the situation was resolved and the mall was expected to reopen for normal hours.

Most stores open at 11 a.m., although restaurants may open earlier. Check the hours and other information here.
