Fanny Wood Day Returns To Fanwood Sunday With Food, Wrestling, Contests

FANWOOD, NJ — Fanny Wood Day returns Sunday, bringing food, music, contests, professional wrestling and family activities to downtown Fanwood.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Martine and South avenues, according to the Borough of Fanwood. The borough says the day will include food, music, contests and professional wrestling.

The festival takes its name from Fanny Wood, a journalist and frequent visitor to the area who wrote about its scenic beauty for New York periodicals and for whom the borough is believed to have been named.

A stuffed animal adoption is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Children can adopt a stuffed dog, personalize a collar and take part in games and activities. The borough says space is limited to the first 100 children.

The Fanny Wood Day website lists an opening ceremony from 11 to 11:30 a.m., followed by WrestlePro professional wrestling from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Other scheduled activities include a water balloon toss at 2:45 p.m., a bubble gum blowing contest at 3 p.m. and a spaghetti and meatball eating contest at 3:30 p.m.

“Fanny Wood Day is BACK,” the borough said in its Sept. 11 announcement.

The borough’s site says more than 20 food vendors and more than 50 vendors and crafters are expected. The family-friendly event will also give visitors a chance to spend the day enjoying the scheduled activities, contests, food, music and entertainment in downtown Fanwood.
