Torch Run For Special Olympics Coming Through Union County Friday Afternoon

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Residents in Scotch Plains and Fanwood will see local police officers take part in the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run on Friday afternoon as the “Flame of Hope” travels through both downtown areas.

According to the Scotch Plains Police Department, officers from both the Scotch Plains and Fanwood Police Departments will participate in the run on Friday, June 5, with the torch expected to pass through town between approximately 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The Torch Run is part of a statewide effort that supports Special Olympics New Jersey and helps raise awareness for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Organizers say the event is meant to highlight inclusion, determination, and achievement, while also giving community members a chance to show support as the torch moves through local streets.

Residents, families, and business owners are invited to come out along the route in both downtown Scotch Plains and Fanwood to cheer on participating officers and support the cause.

The Torch Run is one of the largest fundraising and awareness events for Special Olympics New Jersey, with law enforcement agencies across the state participating each year.
