Summit Honoring America's 250th Birthday With Boston Tea Party

The free day of fun is family-friendly.

SUMMIT, NJ — The City of Summit is celebrating the 250th anniversary of America in 2026 with a "Colonial Boston Tea Party."

On Feb. 6, residents and their families are welcome to a free afternoon of themed fun at the Summit Community Center.

The site, located at 100 Morris Ave., will host two blocks of events. A senior tea party will be held from 12 to 1:30 p.m., with a kids' tea party to follow from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Participants will be able to enjoy a theatre-style story reading, a tea party luncheon, tea bag crafts, a popsicle-stick boat building contest, and more.

Refreshments will also be served.

Many of the ideas for activities were created by Summit's 4th Grade students.

"This is a fun and unique way of bringing history to life while celebrating what makes Summit special," Mayor Elizabeth Fagan said.

Pre-registering for the tea party is encouraged and can be done online.
