Teen Curfew Returns To Toms River's Barrier Island
The annual curfew mirrors those of neighboring areas and aims to help prevent issues, officials say.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River officials have instituted a temporary curfew for minors in the township's barrier island section again for the summer of 2026.
The curfew, signed by Police Chief Guy Maire, took effect Friday and will be in place through Labor Day, Sept. 7, the township announced Friday.
It bars children under age 18 from being out unaccompanied by a parent or guardian from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. with some limited exceptions, including returning home from work, medical emergencies, traveling to or from religious or education functions, and traveling to and from a private gathering, officials said.

Toms River police began setting the curfew in 2020 and used it in 2021. In 2022 it was reinstated after a chaotic July 4th weekend that resulted in 24 complaints specifically about unruly kids on the barrier island in a three-day weekend that saw 195 calls to that part of the township.
The curfew applies to Ortley Beach and to the North Beach section of Toms River, which lies between Brick and Lavallette.
