Kinnelon Schools Give New Mold Testing, Remediation Update
More Kinnelon High School rooms are being tested as remediation continues at schools across the district.

KINNELON, NJ — Kinnelon Public Schools is testing additional high school classrooms and continuing remediation work as the district provides its latest update on air quality and mold concerns.
In a Sept. 30 letter, Superintendent David C. Mango said Kinnelon High School rooms 217, 219, 221a/b, 223 and 225 are being tested by the district's environmental services vendor. Rooms 225 and 319, the band room, are currently being final-clearance testing following remediation.
The remaining classrooms in the same hallway are being tested as a precaution, Mango said.

The latest update follows concerns first detailed in a Sept. 1 letter, when the district said a staff member had reported a mold-like odor and possible spores in high school rooms 221B and 223. The district subsequently contacted its environmental services vendor for air-quality and surface testing.
By Sept. 11, rooms 221 and 223 had been cleared following cleaning and remediation. Testing also found mold in rooms 225 and 319, while PRM rooms 178 and 179 required remediation.

The Sept. 30 update says remediation of PRM rooms 174 (counselor’s office), 178 and 179 began this week, with final testing planned after surface cleaning and sanitization.
The district said any furniture or supplies determined to be unsalvageable will be properly disposed of.
“Any rooms with possible surface mold or signs of mold are not currently being used,” Mango wrote.
The district said it will continue taking precautions, monitoring the situation and addressing concerns as more information becomes available.
