Man Found Dead Behind Passaic County Library, Police Say

The homeless man frequented the area, and several residents shared fond memories of interacting with him.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A man was found dead behind a library in Passaic County recently, according to police.

Police were called to the Main Memorial Library on June 19 near Route 46 in Clifton on reports of a dead body.

Authorities discovered that Adam Steel, a 44-year-old homeless man who frequented the area, was dead.

An investigation revealed no evidence of foul play, and police say there was never any danger to the public.

Further investigation into Steel’s death is being conducted by the Northern Regional Medical Examiner's Office.

Locals in a Clifton social media post shared fond memories of Steel, saying he would often clean car windows in the area, be kind, and keep to himself.

“Rip Adam. YOU MATTERED!” one resident wrote.
