NJ Pair Hit By Car During Nor'Easter, Seriously Injured: Police

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Two people were seriously injured this weekend after being hit by a car during the nor'easter in Passaic County, officials said.

On Sunday, just after 7:30 p.m., police in Bloomingdale were called to the area of Main Street and Ryerson Avenue after several 9-1-1 calls reported pedestrians hit by a car.

Authorities found that a man and a woman were crossing in a crosswalk when they were hit by a Kia Soul being driven by a 64-year-old Bloomingdale woman, police said.

The impact caused both pedestrians to be "thrown into the air," and land on the road "a distance from one another," officials said.

With severe injuries, both people were initially to be taken to a hospital by helicopter, police said. However, due to the nor'easter's heavy rain and high winds, they were taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center Trauma Center in Paterson by ambulance instead.

The 64-year-old driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

The condition of the pair was not clear as of Monday morning.

Authorities thanked citizens who helped during the incident, with many residents stopping at the scene and providing blankets, umbrellas, and other assistance to the injured pedestrians until first responders arrived.
