Good afternoon Ms. Dobinson, Mr. Reilly, and Mr. Aderhold,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing as a parent of students at High School South. My oldest son is on the wrestling team, and my youngest son, a rising 9th grader, intends to participate in football.
I am beyond frustrated and deeply disturbed by what I am hearing regarding the firing of Coach Thompson. We had discussions with him regarding summer training opportunities and the direction of the wrestling program, only to suddenly learn that he has been removed over the use of WhatsApp. Frankly, it is astonishing to me that something so minor could justify removing a coach and completely disrupting an athletic program and its student-athletes.
Has anyone in this administration stopped to think about the impact this has on the students, the morale of the team, and the stability of the program? Or are these concerns secondary to politics and administrative optics?
Is there currently a replacement coach for South Wrestling? Because as a South parent, I am not willing to accept a situation where South students are expected to travel to North and “merge” programs simply because this administration failed to maintain proper staffing. South athletes should not continually be treated as second-class participants within this district.
At this point, the favoritism toward North over South is impossible to ignore. Year after year, North appears to receive the attention, resources, upgrades, and investment, while South families are left dealing with the consequences. Parents and students see it clearly.
Additionally, who exactly is Nate Jones? Why is there no publicly available contact information for him? And why does football conditioning and training repeatedly take place at North, forcing South families to constantly rearrange schedules and transportation? The answer appears obvious: this administration has invested heavily into making North resemble a college campus while South continues to feel neglected and overlooked.
That disparity sends an incredibly damaging message to students — that equality across WWP schools is simply not a priority despite what is publicly claimed.
I would appreciate direct and transparent answers regarding:
• The specific reasoning behind Coach Thompson’s firing
• Whether a replacement coach for South has been hired
• Why South programs continually appear secondary to North
• Why football training is centered at North
• Who Nate Jones is and why there is no accessible contact information
At this point, many parents are losing confidence in how this district is handling athletics and student programs at South.
I await your response.
Sincerely,
Veronica Mehno
