12 People Homeless After Apartment Fire In South Jersey: Officials

DEPTFORD, NJ — A large fire at the Narraticon Apartments complex caused a partial collapse of the building and left 12 people homeless early Monday, authorities said.

According to Union Fire Company #1, firefighters responded at around 12:45 a.m. to 129 Hemlock Court for a report of a dwelling fire with flames on the balcony and people possibly trapped inside.

Firefighters arrived and found flames at the back of the building, the fire company said. The three-alarm fire was brought under control about 3 a.m. and crews remained on location for another two hours, the fire company said.

According to ABC, nine units were damaged during a partial collapse of the building. One person was left with minor smoke inhalation but declined to be medically treated.

The Red Cross of New Jersey said they are assisting 12 people with temporary lodging, food, clothing, and other needs.
