Cops Turn Away Hundreds, Stop 'Pop-Up' Party Near NJ School

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A pop-up party that might have drawn more than 800 people was shut down before it even began on Friday, the Washington Township Police Department said.

The "Rowan University Welcome Week" party was scheduled for 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Echo Plaza.

The plans included tickets that were sold, party buses, VIP packages, and drinks to be offered.

After the owner of the venue told police the event would not be allowed, the promoter still would not identify themselves or take down the post.

Officers stayed at Echo Plaza until midnight and dispersed students who gathered for the party. They also worked to prevent the group from migrating to the parking lot or other areas nearby.
