A domestic violence temporary restraining order was granted to the victim following the incident on Tuesday.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A man, who had barricaded himself inside an apartment, causing a SWAT team stand off in Westfield, is now in police custody, said Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro.

Adrian O’Farrill, 42, of Newark, had reportedly locked and barricaded himself inside an apartment and was refusing to speak with officers.

During the standoff, the female victim was taken to the Westfield Police Department, where she was granted a domestic violence temporary restraining order.
Police asked that the Union County SWAT to serve the protective order to O’Farrill, which granted the victim "sole possession of the residence and custody of a shared child," and to arrest him on criminal charges that included obstructing the administration of law.

Around 6 p.m., police sent out an alert to residents asking them to stay inside and avoid the area.
O'Farrill reportedly refused to leave the apartment or allow anyone inside despite crisis negotiators trying to communicate with him.
As a result, SWAT forced their way into the apartment at around 7:17 p.m. and took O'Farrill into custody without any further incident.
O'Farrill was charged with third- degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree obstructing administration of law, and theft by unlawful taking (disorderly persons offense).
He was processed at the Westfield Police Department and then taken to the Essex County Jail in Newark where he shall remain pending further court proceedings.
In addition to the Westfield Police Department and Union County SWAT, the Westfield Fire Department and Union County EMS also responded.
No injuries were sustained by anyone, said Battiloro.
"I thank our Wychwood Gardens residents for their patience and cooperation while we sought to bring this incident to a successful conclusion," stated Battiloro. "O'Farrill was never believed to be armed with any weapons at any time, and he did not present any safety concerns for other persons."
During the Tuesday night Council meeting, Westfield Mayor Jeremy Berman thanked "the Westfield Police Department and Union County SWAT for their swift response to a domestic incident this evening in the Sandra Circle Apartments."
