East Orange High School Football Player Earns ‘Heart Of Giant’ Nomination

THE ORANGES, NJ — A high school football player from the Oranges has been nominated for a prestigious 2026 “Heart of a Giant Award.”

Abdur Rahman Ali of East Orange Campus High School recently earned a nomination for USA Football’s annual award, which is presented by the Hospital for Special Surgery and the New York Giants.

The award spotlights high school athletes in the Tri-State Area who demonstrate a “relentless work ethic and unmatched love for the game.” Players are nominated by their coaches for their commitment, teamwork, willpower, character and dedication – on and off the field.

Rahman Ali nominated as part of the Week 5 players. Voting will be open until Oct. 25. Fans can vote online here.

Here’s what earned this ambitious local athlete a nomination, organizers said:

“Abdur Rahman Ali exemplifies courage through his willingness to embrace challenges and put his team first. For the past two years, he has been asked to start at four different positions and give up his number multiple times. Each time, he has accepted the challenge with maximum effort and no complaints, becoming an inspiration to his teammates. As a senior, Abdur contributes as a defensive leader and Honor student while balancing academics and football. He also gives back by helping people experiencing homelessness and supporting his community. Through his perseverance, selflessness, and commitment to others, Abdur demonstrates what it means to have the Heart of a Giant.”

“I try to use my time and opportunities to make a difference for the people around me,” Rahman Ali wrote as part of his submission to the contest.

“I believe leadership means being willing to step up when someone needs help,” he added. “I want my actions to show younger people that they can make a positive impact too.”
