1. Falls Risk Screening Event Draws a Crowd at North Domingo Baca (cabq.gov) — Older adults packed North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center in Albuquerque for a free falls risk screening that checked everything from balance and vision to medications and home safety. Even if you missed it, organizers including the City of Albuquerque and UNM point residents to online resources to help prevent dangerous falls at home.

2. New 'Better Neighborhoods' Package Aims to Empower Albuquerque Neighborhoods (cabq.gov) — Albuquerque residents may soon see big changes in how neighborhood associations influence development, appeals, and new housing projects under a four-part "Better Neighborhoods" package introduced at City Council. The proposals aim to curb coalition-led delays, streamline appeals, and encourage more housing and mixed-use growth, which supporters say could ease rent pressures and attract long-sought grocery stores, services, and jobs to local communities.

3. Luminari Bus Tour a tradition in Albuquerque has been cancelled this year (koat.com) — A beloved Albuquerque holiday tradition is ending this year, as ABQ Ride cancels its nearly 60-year-old Christmas Eve luminaria bus tour because of falling attendance and high costs. With only 586 riders last year at about $341 per person to operate, officials say the free transit system can't justify the expense, leaving residents and visitors disappointed and wondering what might replace the festive experience.

4. Missing Arizona juveniles found in Albuquerque (koat.com) — Two missing girls from the Glendale, Arizona area were safely located by U.S. Marshals in the 500 block of Copper Ave NW in Albuquerque this week. Authorities say the 13- and 17-year-olds were suspected human trafficking victims, and they're urging anyone with information on missing children in Albuquerque or beyond to contact the Marshals Service or use the USMS Tips App.

5. New Mexico celebrates the prickly pear with festival (kob.com) — Albuquerque food lovers can dive into all things prickly pear this weekend as the Prickly Pear Festival continues Saturday, featuring local chefs, sweet treats, and hands-on activities. From ceviche to lemonade, vendors highlight the resilient desert fruit's cultural roots and environmental benefits, especially as the Rio Grande faces ongoing water challenges.
