LI Company Recalls 68 Foods After Listeria Detected

BAY SHORE, NY — A Bay Shore company is recalling dozens of ready-to-eat deli-style salads, cream cheeses and other prepared foods because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Made Fresh Salads Inc. announced the recall Sept. 6 after environmental sampling conducted by the FDA and the company found Listeria monocytogenes in some areas of the company’s facility, officials said.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall as of the announcement, according to the company.

The recall covers products sold under the Made Fresh Salads and Northside brands with expiration dates ranging from Sept. 3 through Sept. 18, 2026.

The products were distributed by direct delivery to retail stores and distributors in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and New York City, according to the announcement.

The company said the products may also have been repackaged by retailers into deli-style or other packaging, meaning labels and coding could vary depending on where they were purchased.

Made Fresh Salads has stopped producing and distributing the affected products while the FDA and company continue investigating the source of the contamination, according to the announcement.

What Products Are Being Recalled?

The FDA announcement lists 68 product entries included in the recall.

• Mediterranean tuna
• Penne pasta
• Spinach feta pasta

• Pasta supreme
• Cranberry feta rigatoni
• Sesame noodles
• Tortellini salad
• Tortellini pesto
• Balsamic tortellini
• Rotini shrimp pasta
• Mediterranean couscous
• Chickpea cucumber salad

Most of the salads were distributed in 5-pound containers, while potato salad, macaroni salad and coleslaw were distributed in 30-pound tubs. Some other products were packaged in aluminum trays, according to the recall.

Cream Cheese Also Included

Made Fresh Salads cream cheese varieties included in the recall include apple cinnamon, blueberry, bacon scallion, chocolate chip, garlic and herb, jalapeño, jalapeño cheddar, lox, olive pimento, scallion, strawberry, vegetable, walnut and whipped cream cheese.

Tofu and tofu vegetable spreads are also included.

The recall additionally covers Northside-brand 5-pound containers of garlic and herb, lox, scallion, strawberry, vegetable and walnut raisin cream cheese, along with tofu spread.

Products were distributed in 5-pound and 30-pound white plastic tubs bearing Made Fresh Salads or Northside labels, as well as some half-size aluminum pans, according to the announcement.

What Consumers Should Do

Consumers who purchased the recalled Made Fresh Salads products should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund, according to the company.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. Healthy people can experience short-term symptoms including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Listeria infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, according to the FDA.
