• Mepham High School's annual stairway climb honors Manuel Mojica and 9/11 victims (liherald.com) — Mepham High School students, staff and local firefighters in the Bellmore-Merrick district climbed 2,977 steps to honor North Bellmore firefighter Manuel Mojica and all 9/11 victims. The event also dedicated the school's Senior Staircase as the Remembrance Staircase, creating a lasting tribute to the 28 Bellmore-Merrick residents who died in the attacks and raising funds for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
   

• Bellmore-Merrick suffers effects of nor'easter (liherald.com) — Bellmore residents are being urged to stay off flooded roads, avoid the surf, and call the Bellmore Fire Department for emergencies as a nor'easter brings heavy rain, coastal flooding and power outages. Nassau and Suffolk officials report downed trees, beach erosion, and widespread outages, and warn South Shore communities like Bellmore-Merrick to prepare for continued high winds and possible road closures.
