📰 News we're reading

• Three Bellmore-Merrick students selected for NYSSMA All-State Music Festival (liherald.com) — Three Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District students have earned coveted spots at the NYSSMA All-State Music Festival, placing them among New York's top young musicians. Representing Kennedy and Calhoun high schools, they'll travel to Rochester in December for intensive rehearsals and performances, a recognition district arts leaders say reflects years of dedication by both students and teachers.

• Martin Avenue Elementary School young historians recreate Native American shelters (liherald.com) — Fourth graders at Martin Avenue Elementary in the North Bellmore School District recently turned a social studies unit on Native American life into a hands-on STEM challenge, building and testing model shelters from natural materials. Guided by their teacher, students focused on engineering strength and stability, then used wind and water tests to see how their designs held up, tying science skills to New York State history.
