A ribbon-cutting by the Board of Education and a spirited Green Machine Marching Band performance highlighted the celebration of ongoing athletic facility upgrades in the community.

Daniel Gomez, of Brentwood, pleads not guilty in death of Erik Ermanovics in hit-and-run on Sunrise Highway (newsday.com) — A Brentwood resident has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of leaving the scene after a crash that killed a man on Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst. Prosecutors say the 65-year-old driver left, later returned briefly, then went to work before police found his damaged car and obtained a written statement about the incident.

When reporters checked local post offices, they found visible surveillance cameras at only two locations, including Brentwood, leaving many residents worried about how well their mail is protected.
