Brooklyn Navy Yard to Host 3rd Annual Union & Apprenticeship Fair

On April 16, the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) will host its 3rd Annual Union & Apprenticeship Fair to help job seekers find pathways into training and apprenticeship opportunities with local unions. The fair will provide residents with direct access to good-paying job opportunities with strong benefits across a variety of growing industries, including electrical, plumbing, construction and other skilled trades.

“As the Brooklyn Navy Yard continues to lead the way in preserving and expanding industrial jobs in New York City, it’s critical that we also build equitable pathways for our community members to access those jobs,” said Lindsay Greene, President and CEO of BNYDC. “The Union & Apprenticeship Fair is a great opportunity for job seekers to build their understanding of what careers in skilled trades look like today: higher tech, but still highly accessible, and also cool! It's important for members of our community, across ages, to have tangible connections to opportunities like these, so they know they are truly accessible to them, and lead to real job and career opportunities.”

More than 20 union professionals across a variety of businesses and organizations are participating in the April 16 event, including representatives from:

• Pathways 2 Apprenticeship

• National Grid

• Non-Traditional Employment for Women

• District Council 9 NY - IUPAT Painters & Allied Trades

• DC 19 Cement & Concrete Workers Training and Education Fund

• National Association of Power Engineers

• Construction Skills

• and more!

The Union & Apprenticeship Fair will run from 3:00 - 6:00 PM on the 9th floor of Building 303 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, with check-in running from 2:30 - 5:30 PM. Along with opportunities to connect with recruiters and expand their professional network, attendees can also participate in a panel discussion on "Navigating Union Careers" at 4:30 PM.
