Brooklyn Teen Shot During Subway Robbery Attempt

BROOKLYN, NY— An 18-year-old woman is recovering after a gunman shot her during an attempted robbery on a Brooklyn subway platform before fleeing into the night, according to police reports.

The shooting happened about 11:45 p.m. Sunday on the southbound 2 train platform at the President Street–Medgar Evers College station in Crown Heights, according to the New York Police Department.

Investigators said the suspect tried to steal the woman's purse.

During a struggle, he fired a single shot, striking her in the chest.

Responding officers placed the victim into a police vehicle and drove her to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County. She was listed in stable condition.

As the two struggled over the bag, the suspect fired one round before running from the station.

Investigators recovered one bullet fragment at the scene.

After the shooting, officers tracked the victim's purse to the front of 1762 Pacific St., where investigators said the suspect discarded it after searching through its contents.

Police have not announced whether anything was stolen from the bag.

Police described the suspect as wearing:

• A red New York Yankees cap with a white logo
• A black face mask
• A black backpack
• Black shorts
• Black sneakers

He fled on foot and had not been arrested as of the latest update.
