East New York Community Garden Gets New Irrigation System Through Local Business Support

Pacific Lawn Sprinklers donates and installs drip irrigation system to help Penn-Wortman Houses Community Garden provide fresh produce for residents

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Penn-Wortman Houses Community Garden in East New York is ready to grow with a new drip irrigation system donated and installed by Pacific Lawn Sprinklers, helping support a resident-led effort to provide fresh produce and a vibrant community space for local families.

The garden project was spearheaded by Penn-Wortman Tenant Association President Karima Williams and residents, who worked to preserve and enhance the neighborhood resource. Local businesses contributed materials and expertise to bring the project to life, including Pacific Lawn Sprinklers, which donated and installed the drip line irrigation system, and Greengage UrbanScape NYC, which provided soil and plants and installed raised garden beds.

“Being able to use what we do every day to help residents grow fresh food and enjoy this community garden made this project especially meaningful for our team,” said Mary Mahoney, Brand President of Pacific Lawn Sprinklers. “A well-designed drip irrigation system delivers water directly where plants need it while making the garden easier for residents to maintain. We’re proud to have played a small part in helping this garden thrive for years to come.”

Residents, the Tenant Association, the L+M team and local leaders recently celebrated the garden’s completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The community garden is part of the broader Stanley Avenue PACT revitalization project across the Linden and Penn-Wortman campuses, which includes the preservation and modernization of nearly 2,000 apartments as well as a community center, space for on-site social and resident services, and public-space improvements.
