Brooklyn Democrats Face Off In Court Over Party Control (patch.com) — Brooklyn Democrats are locked in a court battle over who will control the borough's party apparatus after reform-minded district leaders won a majority of seats in June. The dispute centers on rule changes pushed by current chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn that would expand the executive committee and potentially dilute the reformers' power before key organizational and leadership votes later this month.
   

2. John Dewey Middle School opens new annex (brooklyneagle.com) — Brooklyn families are getting 553 new middle school seats with the opening of the John Dewey Middle School annex, featuring modern classrooms, labs, arts spaces, and a gymatorium. City and School Construction Authority leaders say the southern Brooklyn project, along with several other new borough schools, is designed to reduce class sizes and modernize learning environments.

Brooklyn Org launches new initiative, names Dr. Christina Greer first visiting scholar (brooklyneagle.com) — A Brooklyn-based philanthropic group has launched a new visiting scholar program and named political scientist Dr. Christina Greer as its first scholar through June 2027. The initiative aims to shape research, policy, and philanthropy in Brooklyn while involving local thought leaders and hosting public programs and events that residents can attend.
   

4. Cops identify suspect in deadly Brooklyn nightclub shooting (nydailynews.com) — NYPD detectives have identified 31-year-old Dominique Heard as the suspect in a fatal February 2025 shooting inside Socialites Lounge on Atlantic Avenue in Clinton Hill, where East Flatbush resident Jordan Amador was killed. Police have released Heard's image and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers confidentially to help locate him.
   

5. MTA releases renderings of the IBX light rail system for Brooklyn and Queens (pix11.com) — Brooklyn residents are getting a closer look at the planned Interborough Express, as the MTA released new station renderings for the light rail line linking Brooklyn and Queens. The 18-station route promises shorter trips, better accessibility, and new transfer points, with an environmental study and public meetings coming before final design and construction decisions.
