3. World's First Movie Theater for Short Films to Open Soon in Bushwick (greenpointstar.com) — A new nonprofit cinema devoted entirely to short films is set to open later this month at 236 Troutman Street in Bushwick, transforming a longtime nightlife spot into a 40-seat theater and café. 4. Hit-run driver abandons car, flees with his license plates after fatal Brooklyn crash (nydailynews.com) — A deadly hit-and-run on Ocean Parkway in Midwood left a 62-year-old driver dead and his passenger critically injured after their car was rear-ended just after midnight Monday. Police say the Audi driver abandoned his wrecked car, removed the license plates, and fled on foot, while the RAV4 driver suffered minor injuries and the suspect remains at large.

Thousands Attend CultureCon at Brooklyn Navy Yard (bkreader.com) — CultureCon just drew more than 10,000 creatives to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and Brooklyn artists now have a short window to tap new city funding. Individual artists can apply for grants up to $10,000—double the previous amount—through the Brooklyn Arts Council until Oct. 11, supporting local projects, collectives, and small nonprofits across the borough.
