Current party chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, who represents Flatbush, Little Haiti and South Midwood, is pushing to expand the voting body beyond 42 district leaders, a move reformers say could dilute their new influence before a leadership vote this fall.

Hochul Announces $6.2 Million for Healthcare, Community Facility Improvements in Brooklyn (bkreader.com) — State leaders have committed $6.2 million to upgrade healthcare and community facilities serving Brooklyn residents, including StartCare and NYCHA's Breukelen Houses Community Center. Announced during a back-to-school event in Canarsie Park, the funding will expand primary care and behavioral health services and modernize community space for East New York and Canarsie families.

Woman stabs two teen girls, slashes third in Brooklyn Dollar Tree (dailynews.com) — Three teenage girls were stabbed or slashed during an argument inside a Dollar Tree on Van Siclen Ave. in East New York, Brooklyn, with two hospitalized in stable condition. Police arrested 44-year-old Violar Bouyer nearby and charged her with assault and weapon possession after she allegedly believed the teens planned to rob her.

Man gunned down in Bronx as girlfriend watched was innocent bystander: sources (nydailynews.com) — A Brooklyn man visiting his girlfriend in a Bronx homeless shelter was fatally shot in the head outside the building, with law enforcement sources now saying he was an innocent bystander. The 39-year-old, who had come from Brooklyn just to pick her up, died at the scene, and an 18-year-old suspect has been charged with murder and weapon possession.
