Has anyone noticed that the only vendor to sell NYC-certified curbside recycling bins is Home Depot? That's called a Sole Source contract and the only reason for its use, as defined by a reliable internet search, is as follows:
"A sole source contract is a non-competitive agreement awarded directly to a single supplier without a standard bidding process. It's typically used only when that specific vendor is the only one capable of providing the required product or service, such as with proprietary technology or extreme emergencies."
Those bins are two separate 50-gallon wheeled models—one blue and one green—bearing an official NYC Department of Sanitation seal. They've been sold out for weeks at Home Depot, and building owners who fail to put them out on designated recycling days face immediate summonses and fines from the city.
This is simply unconscionable.
