1. Tonawanda man sentenced for killing victim in his Cheektowaga home (wnypapers.com) — A Tonawanda man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison plus post-release supervision for killing a 59-year-old victim at a home on Cayuga Avenue in Cheektowaga. Prosecutors say Cheektowaga Police, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, and State Police worked together on the 2024 homicide investigation that led to his manslaughter conviction this April.
   

2. Cheektowaga Polish-American Arts Festival (stepoutbuffalo.com) — Cheektowaga residents can look forward to the 2026 Polish-American Arts Festival at Cheektowaga Town Park, promising high-energy polka bands, local favorite Special Delivery, and plenty of Polish food and merchandise. Organizers are teasing new Disco Polo act Impulse Band and urging neighbors to mark their calendars and spread the word for this major cultural celebration.
   

3. State Police issue more than a hundred work zone tickets on Thruway Monday (wgrz.com) — State Police recently cracked down on unsafe driving through work zones on the I-90 Thruway, including stretches in Cheektowaga, issuing 101 tickets in a single ten-hour Operation Hard Hat detail. Troopers disguised as road workers spotted speeders and seatbelt violators, with some drivers clocked over 85 mph, underscoring the need for extra caution near local construction zones.
   

4. World's largest operating steam locomotive makes second stop in WNY for America's 250th anniversary (wkbw.com) — A Cheektowaga dad and his sons were among thousands who headed to the Bison Railyard in nearby Sloan to see Union Pacific’s massive “Big Boy No. 4014” steam locomotive. The 80-year-old engine is touring the country for America’s 250th birthday, including a pass through Letchworth State Park before July 4.
